As Luke lay in a hospital bed fighting for his life from Covid-19, pianist, songwriter, producer, Luke Smith promised himself that if he makes it, he will immediately release music .
In his own words, “I didn’t want my legacy to be that I died with some great music on my hard drive!”

“Travelling” is an up-tempo jazz funk affair featuring British jazz guitar legend, Tony Remy. The track, reminiscent of the 80’s jazz funk period, see’s Luke Smith displaying his skills on both piano and organ. The lead melody is delivered with an infectious melody played on piano, supported by Tony’s guitar, and an array of subtle keyboard and a horn section. The track is driven by a funky drum beat played by veteran Jerry Brown, with Remy featuring with some classic jazz licks and a funk rock solo almost bang in the middle of the track.
Differing from many of the recent UK jazz offerings, “Travelling” has a nod to a more American sound, than the sound that characterizes the current crop of UK jazz releases. Luke says, “Because of my time making pop records, I learnt the production is just as important as the composition and performance, everything is deliberate”.
